IOWA CITY, Iowa (KWWL) -- University of Iowa Athletics Director Gary Barta announced on Friday a contract extension for football head coach Kirk Ferentz through the 2029 season.
Ferentz is the longest-tenured active head coach in the program's history having just completed his 23rd season.
“Kirk’s consistent leadership and success over 23 years has been amazing and appreciated as he has led our football program in a first-class manner,” Barta said. “His success over the past 23 years speaks for itself. He is an asset to the University of Iowa and our athletics department as a whole. The foundation of his program is strong, and the future looks bright.”
Ferentz' previous deal ran through 2025, and with the new extension, it will now run through 2030. With the new extension, Ferentz' annual compensation will be $7 million.
"I am grateful to President Barb Wilson and Athletics Director Gary Barta for their success that we have achieved in Iowa City the past 23 years and look forward to many more years of competing at the highest level," Ferentz said.
Ferentz is Iowa's all-time winningest coach and took the Hawkeyes to a 10-4 record in 2021.
